My Life

Last night was rough…

A couple of years ago, my wife and I decided to upgrade our living conditions. We had a nice house, but wanted more (money will do this to you I suppose).

So we found a decent sized home in a nice area of Houston. The house is 5200 sq ft, built in 2003, and custom.

While we were ‘living it up’, we didn’t really ‘think’.

We didn’t think about how much room we really needed. We just knew what we wanted.

We didn’t think about the design. We just thought that this house was very nice.

And now, we kick ourselves in the butt on a daily basis yelling, ‘WHY!!!!’

Let me lay this out for you…

We have 2 kids, 5 and 2. Both boys and both momma’s boy’s.

The master bedroom is as far away from their rooms as possible. The builder obviously built this house with teenagers in mind (or young adults still living at home).

It wasn’t built with small children in mind.

Well, we decided to have the kids sleep in the master with us for a while. That was ok, but really they needed their own space.

So we moved them upstairs to their rooms and decided to take over the guest room ourselves in order to be a bit closer. This beats walking a fricken’ mile in the middle of the night when your 2 yr old is calling for you.

The guest room has a full sized bed in it and is barely big enough for my wife and I. I’m a flopper at night, so it’s worse for her :-)

But lately, at 3am, we’ve been getting 2 little guests crawling in bed with us. I’m frankly too sleepy to carry them back to their bed and because if that laziness, this has become a habit.

So I toss and turn every night from 3 to 5am (at which time I just give up and get up).

Why am I telling you this?

Because I’m a real person and not some ‘guru’ as I was called in a rather nasty email yesterday. I’m just a guy that loves his life, am grateful for what I have (a wife, 2 kids, and a cool dog) and needs more sleep.

Yes, definitely more sleep.
