The Definitive Guide to Wordpress Link Getting Plugins

by Keith Baxter on January 30, 2010

Fact: Getting links pointing to your site is over 50% of the battle when it comes to ranking in the search engines for keywords you wish to rank for.

Fact: Getting links can be a long, painful, and very boring process.

Fact: Begging, buying, and borrowing links is a pain in the ass.

But guess what?

I have good news.

Due to recent advancements in technology, Wordpress is now capable of getting you all of the links you need.

Let me say this another way…

Use these plugins and never have to lift a finger to get links.

Pretty cool, right?

Here they are in no particular order.

I must say this first… I have used 90% of these and own the other 10%. What I’m about to write is largely based on personal experience and the rest is based on reports from close friends.

Shorten2ping (free) – With this plugin, you can syndicate your title and direct link to 30+ web 2 sites. These sites include Wordpress.org, Facebook, and Twitter.

In order to use this, you have to have accounts created with ping.fm as well as all of the sites ping.fm supports.

The plugin will blast your title and link to ping.fm for syndication each time a post is made.

Twitme (free) – This plugin will blast a short blurb from your post out to Twitter.com.

Wait, doesn’t shorten2ping.com already do this?

Yes, but here’s a cool strategy to follow:

Twitter account #1 is integrated directly into ping.fm.
Twitter account #2 is integrated directly into shorten2ping plugin.
Twitter account #3 is integrated directly into Twitme plugin.

You can then use a program such as Hummingbird to follow different markets within the same industry.

For example, if I’m targeting Auto Insurance.

One Twitter account can attract followers looking for sports car auto insurance.
The second Twitter account can attract followers looking for antique car auto insurance.
And the third Twitter account can attract followers looking for DUI auto insurance.

Deep Link Engine (premium) – This plugin hasn’t been released to the public yet, but it drastically improves upon its predecessors PingCrawl and PingCrawl 2.

In a nutshell, it seeks out blogs with related content based on tags used for your post and initiates a pingback.

The end result is a certain number if sites returned in the search will link back to you.

Stealth Traffic System (premium) – This plugin will take your RSS feed, extract the links, automatically generate unique content, and then post that content with a hyperlink back to your post to WPMU blogs or individual Wordpress blogs for that matter.

This is the single most effective link getting plugin in existence.

The reason why I say that is because you can control the targets (sites) that are being posted to.

Right now, the only way to get this is to contact me via the commenting section with ‘Send me STS details’. I will send you details as soon as I can.

Auto Social Poster (premium) – This plugin allows you to configure multiple social bookmarking accounts and automatically post to them each time you generate a post on your blog. The system supports multiple accounts (and will post randomly to these accounts) across 30+ social bookmarking sites.

This is much different than shorten2ping as each one targets different sites.

Web Traffic Genius (premium) – This plugin will generate a unique RSS from each post and then automatically submit that unique feed to 20+ RSS aggregators.

Onlywire Multi Autosubmitter (free) – Much like ping.fm, but targeting different sites. This multi autosubmitter version is especially cool as you can add multiple OnlyWire.com accounts and randomly post to different accounts with each blog post.

These are the best plugins that I’m aware of right now.

If you know of others, by all means post them in the comments section.

I do have to say this…

To configure these plugins and services associated with them can be a very long task (but well worth it). If you are looking to outsource any task, this is the one you want to outsource.

And lastly…
